Pro tip!! Here are some tried-and-true ways to make sure you are getting the most out of your child’s Kindermusik years, extending the value way beyond just the once a week classes

  1. Show up. Sounds easy enough, right? But we know it’s not. We understand how busy life can be. We also understand that children and adults get sick. Or it snows or rains or your little one finally takes a nap (30 minutes before class!). It happens. Do your best to be here each week. If you can’t make it, no worries. Just let us know and we will schedule a make-up class.
  2. Arrive 10 minutes early for Gathering Time – it’s “bonus” class time. Most children need a few minutes to transition into something new. Those extra few minutes give your child the opportunity to take off shoes, find a spot to sit, interact with the other children, or even to explore the room.  And then you’ll have time to explore and play with the toys we have out just for this time.
  3. Connect with other parents in class. When you arrive a few minutes early, it gives you time to get to know other parents who understand the unique joys (and challenges!) of raising a child the same age. Kindermusik can be the perfect place to share parenting tips, set up play dates, or just roll your eyes about the crazy antics our children get up to.
  4. Dress comfortably. We sit on the floor. We dance around the room. We lift children in the air or swing them in a blanket. Your child will love every minute of it – and so will you – but admittedly at times it might feel like a workout.
  5. Follow your child’s lead. Watch for how your child responds, then join in!  It’s ok if your child wants to do an activity in a different way than the teacher is doing it. It’s ok to sit on the floor while others dance. It’s ok to stand while others sit. As long as they are in the room, your child is seeing and hearing everything that goes on, and learning in a variety of ways. All we need beyond that are the simplest of safety tips.
  6. Have fun and relax. Seriously. It’s that simple.
  7. Actively participate. You are your child’s first and best teacher. Your child learns from your words and actions. When your little one sees you authentically engaging in class or at home, your child will, too. So go ahead, sing and dance and be silly. Rediscover the joys of childhood with your little one as a tour guide.
  8. Turn off your phone and your internal To Do list.(We know you have one, because, well… we do, too!) Focus on these precious moments with your child. You are making memories that will last a lifetime. Trust us. We hear it from former parents and students all the time.
  9. Play Kindermusik at home, in the car, at the grocery store, before bed, anywhere! Kindermusik isn’t just a weekly class. We intentionally include materials for families to use together outside of class. We know that connecting the classroom learning to those “everyday” moments supports your role as your child’s first and best teacher and strengthens the neural connections in your child’s brain. (And it’s fun!)
  10. Celebrate the uniqueness of your child . We love the Dr. Seuss quote: “Today you are You, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is Youer than You.” Our class is better because your child is in it. No one else can participate in quite the same way. So, celebrate each week the “truer than true” way your child contributes! We certainly will.

Thank you again for choosing to enroll in Kindermusik and celebrate your child’s potential through music education.

Have a musical day!
